Like other electric equipment in your Palm Springs, CA home, air conditioners require routine maintenance. Attempting to repair or replace components in your AC unit without the assistance of an expert is unwise and can be extremely dangerous However, you can save time, money, and frustration by learning about the signs of typical AC repair issues and keeping an eye out for them.

1. Refrigerant Leaks

If your air conditioner is running short on refrigerant, it was either undercharged during setup or has leaks. If it leaks, then a competent technician should repair any leaks, test the repairs, and charge the system with the appropriate quantity of refrigerant as per the manufacturer’s standard.

2. Electric Control Malfunction

Both compressor and fan controls can break down, particularly if the air conditioner cycles on and off repeatedly, as is usual with large systems. Since corrosion of wires and terminals is an issue across many systems, the technician may check your electrical connections and contacts as part of routine HVAC maintenance.

3. Unit Not Blowing Cold Air

If a filthy air filter obstructs your AC’s airflow, your unit won’t blow cool air. A clogged air filter might further freeze the condenser unit, limiting the cooling capacity of your AC. Cleaning your air filter every month will enable your air conditioner to produce chilly air.

4. Thermostat Failure

Switching to your AC unit will be challenging if your thermostat is broken or incorrectly set. The dial-type thermostats are prone to calibration issues, but the more recent programmable thermostats can still be challenging to set up. Read your thermostat’s handbook to ensure you have properly set your thermostat.

Regular AC maintenance can help prevent many of the issues that might affect your system’s performance or cause it to fail. If you’re already having problems, prompt repairs will help you avoid further damage and more costly solutions down the road. Contact Vic’s Air Conditioning for service if you’re experiencing any issues with your AC.
